Description:
This is a series of very early "Sportsmen". In the first three I used the color of the primer to emphasize the silhouettes in the foreground. The man with the yellow briefcase is a state officer who turns up in a mountain village out of a sudden. The villagers look at him with anxiety. They know it means some kind of control, inspection. A similar motif of a "stranger" can be found in Free Soup. And in Twelve Apostles Without Christ there are chaps from the suburbs in a winter landscape, supposedly waiting for a bus. They are twelve Polish apostles, but Christ is not among them. The spiritual leader is absent. They are left on their own. The pope, Karol Wojtyła, won’t show up until 1978. Here they still have to wait.
