Description:
In the early eighties a very heavy mood fell over Poland. Freedom ideals stumbled. People lost their hope. Many Solidarity activists were kept in prisons. Others disappeared. Jerzy Popiełuszko, the chaplain of Solidarity, was murdered and the future was unclear. The situation was difficult to bear, hopeless - cutting one's head off seemed to be the best thing to do. This guy did exactly that and now he is laughing because he stopped thinking about all this misery. There is nothing left in his head.

In my opinion, this is an auto-ironic painting. Edward sometimes overdosed alcohol and made a mess. The next day he would feel bad, have a headache and feel remorse combined with the overwhelming necessity of diminishing the effects of his excesses. And anyway, he used to have strong migraines at that time.
