Description:
In 1990 Zachęta National Gallery of Art sold out some works from the collection. I bought some cool socialist realistic paintings, among others The portrait of Albin siwak by Andrzej Blaim. Siwak was a very interesting person - he only finished 7 classes of elementary school; then he had become a bricklayer; a stakhanovite; then a political activist and finaly a diplomat in Libya. This was a "sportsman" who made a big career.But he was also a typical negative hero of the People's Republic of Poland - a normal worker - a puppet lifted to greatness. (E.D.)
